Why AGAPE Debate Camp:
AGAPE Debate Camp offers program options for students of all experience levels, from students with little or no formal debate training to students who aspire to win the national championship.  Our philosophy focuses on balancing research and lectures with ample practice debates and speeches so that students are able to apply immediately the theories and strategies they have discussed.
 
The strength of our camp is our faculty. Collectively our staff has coached or won over a dozen championships including the NFL nationals and the tournament of champions. The AGAPE staff is dedicated to ensuring that students have the best possible workshop experience. Our staff is composed of very successful high school and college coaches as well as some of the best college debaters in the nation.

Instructors:   
1. Mr. Richard Connelly 
Mr. Connelly has coached policy debate for over ten years. He created a nationally recognized debate program at his former school Bronx Law. His teams have qualified for the state championships every year for the last ten years. In 2005, he had a team attend the National Forensics League Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Connelly’s teams had to beat Bronx Science and Stuyvesant High Schools in order to qualify for the National Championships. He has taught debate at Howard University for their summer debate program. His former debaters have attended Dartmouth, M.I.T., Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Penn State Law School, Fordham Law School, and Vanderbilt law School.
 
2. Mr. Erik Fogel
Mr. Fogel is a debate coach at the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice.  He has been coaching policy debate for over ten years.  He did debate in high school in California.  He graduated from UC Berkeley and majored in Political Science and History.  He also graduated from Law School at University of California at Hastings.  He was accepted in the Teach for America program in 2002 and has been teaching and coaching debate for the past 10 years in the South Bronx.  His debate team is one of the largest urban debate teams in the country with about 100 debaters and also one of the most successful – winning awards at all tournaments.
 
3. Mr. James Hamilton
Mr. Hamilton is an experienced history instructor, and currently teaches Ancient World History, Political Philosophy, and Modern Latin American History to High School freshmen and seniors at the Calhoun School in Manhattan. Public speaking, debate, and Socratic method play an important role in Mr. Hamilton’s educational approach. Drawing on experience as a Social Worker and ESL instructor, Mr. Hamilton also emphasizes social justice and inter-cultural exploration and understanding in his curriculum.
 
4. Mr. Brady Fletcher    
Brady Fletcher began as a policy debater at the University of Vermont and achieved national competitive success.  He was honored as first speaker at the Novice National Debate Tournament in 2005, where he and his partner finished in first place.  His debate team was ranked sixth in the nation in 2006.  He has taught debate at the collegiate level at the University of Vermont and the University of Rochester.  He holds a Master of Arts degree in English and is a PhD candidate in Cinema Studies at New York University.
