Public Speaking & Debate Camp

* Public Speaking Workshop                                     Fridays 9-11am                                              Tuition: $425
The main aim of this workshop is to provide students with the opportunity to develop and practice their public speaking skills in a supportive environment. It fosters positive interaction amongst students, providing social experiences within the class. Speaking in front of an audience can be a daunting task, even for adults! Yet it doesn’t need to be. With a little guidance and practice, your children can gain the confidence needed to speak in front of an audience in a confident and articulate manner. This workshop will expose students to the tools and skills needed to be a poise and confident in their communication with others.

* Public Forum Debate                                        Fridays 11:15-1:15pm                                           Tuition: $425
Public Forum Debate was first created in 2002 by Donus D. Roberts, as "Controversy," the event was soon renamed to "Ted Turner debate" in early 2003 after Ted Turner, founder of CNN. In November, 2003, Ted Turner debate was renamed to public forum debate by the National Forensic League. Public forum debate can be compared to a nationally-televised debate, such as Crossfire in which the debaters argue a topic of national importance in terms that a "common" person would understand. Public forum debate is conducted by teams of two people alternating speeches for their side. In this course, students in middle school and high school will learn to make persuasive and logical arguments in a manner that is accessible to a wide variety of audiences.

Math Enrichment Camp

* Power Math (SHSAT/SSAT/AMC Prep)                 Mon & Wed 9-10:30am (13 Sessions)                  Tuition: $495
The course is designed to stimulate student’s interest and confidence through solving highly challenging problems. Students are introduced to basic concepts of algebra with an emphasis on comprehension and mathematical modeling of situations.  Specific emphasis will be placed on preparing students for the SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE, and AMC exam.

* HS Algebra Preview                                                     MW 1-2:30pm                                            Tuition: $375
This course will assist students in developing skills and processes to be applied using a variety of techniques to successfully solve problems in a variety of settings.  Problem situations may result in all types of linear equations in one variable, quadratic functions with integral coefficients and roots as well as absolute value and exponential functions.  Coordinate geometry will be integrated into the investigation of these functions allowing students to make connections between their analytical and geometrical representations.

* HS Geometry Preview                                                  MW 1-2:30pm                                            Tuition: $375

This course is meant to employ an integrated approach to the study of geometric relationships. Integrating synthetic, transformational, and coordinate approaches to geometry, students will justify geometric relationships and properties of geometric figures. Congruence and similarity of triangles will be established using appropriate theorems. Transformations including rotations, reflections, translations, and glide reflections and coordinate geometry will be used to establish and verify geometric relationships.  A major emphasis of this course is to allow students to investigate geometric situations.
