QUEENS DEBATE LEAGUE INAUGURAL TOURNAMENT A BIG SUCCESS (1/31/15)
On Saturday, January 31, the Queens Debate League held their first inaugural tournament. The tournament was attended by schools from District 26 in Queens, New York. The tournament was held at M.S. 172Q Irwin Altman in Glen Oaks, Queens.
In the overall team sweepstakes awards, M.S. 74 Nathaniel Hawthorne took first place, with M.S. 158 Marie Curie taking second place and M.S. 172Q Irwin Altman rounding out the field with third place honors.
In the top team awards, first place went to Jennifer Lee and Kelly Kang of M.S. 74. Second place went to the team of Elaine Chen, Alexsaundra Marin, and Natalia Brillon also of M.S. 74. Third place honors went to Felicia Chen and Javah Xie of M.S. 158. Fourth place team ranking went to Madison Fishman and Elizabeth Doss of M.S. 158. Fifth place, was taken by Alishba Iftikhar, Aditi Pardeshi, and Elizabeth Katanov of M.S. 172Q.
In the top speakers' awards, Jennifer Lee, of M.S. 74, won first place of out of 50 speakers. Sanford James, of M.S. 74, took second place speaker. Alan Ajit, of M.S. 172Q, received third place honors.
The Queens Debate League host tournaments through out the Borough of Queens. The Queens Debate League is open to any public, parochial or charter in Queens. We offer competitive divisions in both policy and public forum debate for students in elementary, middle school, and high school.
